Faux wood blinds are perfect for bathroom windows or windows over the stove or sink in the kitchen because they stand up to moisture much better than their wood counterparts and they are easier to clean.  Actually they are made of a combination of vinyl and wood, polymer and wood or vinyl compounds so they are also less expensive than wood, and they do not fade, warp, peel, or crack.

There are many different types and styles of window treatments. But what is the difference between draperies and curtains? Many people confuse them because they seem so similar. They are both made of fabric and are used to beautify a window and a room. So when is a window treatment a curtain and when is it a drapery?

First, the type of fabric is a factor. Curtains are made from lightweight fabrics such as sheers, lace, and thin silk while draperies are made from heavier fabric like jacquard and velvet and are almost always lined. The style of the window treatment makes a difference too. Generally, curtains are casual and are usually only window length. Draperies are more formal, almost always floor length or longer. Lastly, there is the purpose of the window treatment. Window coverings that can be opened and closed easily are usually curtains. The primary function of draperies is almost always decoration and in general cannot be opened easily.

Curtains and draperies can be used together however, for a decorative, layering effect offering decor with the functionality of a window covering. For example, using a sheer curtain over the window to diffuse the sunlight and then add accent to the room by using a drapery on the window as well.
