Many of us have tricky doors in our homes; Dutch doors leading onto the deck, or rows of French doors separating interior rooms. Deciding on window treatments for these challenging doors can be quite a task. Here are a few ideas from the designers at Window Treatment Showplace.
Inter-mingle dark bamboo blinds and draw draperies. The blinds allow you to control the light on each individual window, while the draperies can be pulled across for total privacy at night. The advantage to using blinds is that they are attached right to the doors and do not interfere with opening and closing.
White drapes provide light. Match a cornice with the rooms molding and the drapery rods can sit behind it. This creates a clean, crisp look. When the drapes are drawn, the white drawn fabric looks as cheerful as the daytime view. You can also use hooks above the doors to loop long, tall sheers gracefully and let them pool slightly on the floor.
Roman shades are a great choice for windows on doors because they are simple and neat whether they are closed or drawn open. Pulled up to the top, roman shades square up the top of French doors. When lowered to any length, they created a multi-paned look which is eye appealing. For windows and doors that need to open and close, start the window treatments up at the ceiling line. Fabric shades can pull up out of the way of the door and window.
